Union (N.Y.) Hands Field Hockey 6-0 Defeat

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Elms College field hockey team was overpowered by Union (N.Y.) in a 6-0 defeat in non-conference play on Tuesday night.

Union's (4-7) Laura Wind scored in the seventh minute to give the Dutchwomen an early 1-0 lead then added another just before halftime when Charlotte Leyland scored in the 33rd minute to make it 2-0 at the break.

Katie Talacci added a goal in the 40th minute to make it 3-0 in favor of Union before the Dutchwomen added three goals in a five-minute span to build the decisive 6-0 advantage with 19 minutes to play.

Union held a 29-2 advantage in shots and 13-1 lead in penalty corners in the contest.

Blazer (4-10) goalkeepers Jillian Lapponese and Nora Newman split time in net. Lapponese played just over 46 minutes and made six saves while Newman played the other 23-plus minutes and made five saves. Madison Gabel and Carissa Ramirez recorded the two Blazers shots.

Elms will return to New England Collegiate Conference play at Dean on Oct. 13. The Blazers dealt Dean a 12-0 defeat on Sept. 22. Union will host RPI on Oct. 12.
