Sewanee Hands Field Hockey 6-0 Defeat

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Sewanee Tigers' field hockey team traveled from their campus in southern Tennessee for a Saturday matchup against the Elms College Blazers in Chicopee, Mass. Sewanee exploded with five goals, including two from Ceara Caffrey (Scituate, Mass.), in the second half to take the 6-0 win.

The Tigers were in control most of the contest, outshooting the Blazers 25-1 while also having the penalty corner advantage, 11-2.

Anne Cleveland (Fort Worth, Texas) and Eliza Griffin (Stonington, CT) each added a goal for Sewanee while Hannah Tompkins (Wilmington, Del.) had a goal and an assist.

The Blazers' goalies were under duress most of the afternoon with the constant offensive pressure from Sewanee but they held their own for most of the game, holding the Tigers to just a 1-0 lead at halftime. Jillian Lapponese (Enfield, CT) collected seven saves on 11 shots on goal before giving way to Nora Newman (Wobrun, Mass.) for the final 11 minutes.

Elms (1-5) will be home for its next matchup on Tuesday when they will take on Clark University. Sewanee (3-1) finished their New England road trip on Saturday after defeating Becker last Friday.  They will return home for their next matchup against Converse on Sept. 22.
