Messier Breaks Two Program Records As Field Hockey Tops Sage

TROY, N.Y. -- Madison Messier (Warren, Mass.) broke two program records on Wednesday evening as the Elms College field hockey team went on the road and picked up a 3-1 win at Sage.

Messier, who entered the game tied atop the record books with 36 career goals, scored the record-breaking goal in the 23rd minute. In doing so, she tied the program record with 88 career points. Later in the game, Messier assisted Madison Gabel's (Agawan, Mass.) goal, picking up her third point, and  second program record, of the night.

Carissa Ramirez (San Diego, Calif.) had a big night of her own, scoring the game's first goal in the sixth minute and assisting Messier's record-breaking goal later in the first half.

The Gators (1-2) scored in the 67th minute to cut the Elms (1-4) lead to 3-1, but it was too little, too late.

Elms held a 12-8 advantage in shots in the game and each team earned eight penalty corners.

Both teams will be back in action on Sept. 15 as Elms hosts Sewanee and Sage will welcome Utica College.
