DeVaux, Newman Garner NECC Weekly Honors

MARSHFIELD, Mass. -- Elms field hockey players Evelyn DeVaux (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Nora Newman (Woburn, Mass.) swept the New England Collegiate Conference weekly awards the league announced Tuesday as DeVaux was recognized as the NECC Player of the Week while Newman secured NECC Rookie of the Week honors.

DeVaux scored Elms’ only goal in a 2-1 overtime loss against Colby-Sawyer in the season-opener. She redirected a service from outside the circle from Carissa Ramirez (San Diego, Calif.) past the goalkeeper to put the Blazers ahead 1-0 in the first half.

Newman came in off the bench to play the final 51 minutes of the game in net for the Blazers, making four saves in her Elms debut.

The Blazers are home this week with games against Western Connecticut State (Sept. 5) and WPI (Sept. 8).
