Blazers Blanked At Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – The Elms College field hockey team was on its heels for most of the game in a 2-0 loss at Gordon on Monday afternoon.

The Blazers (0-2) survived an early flurry from Gordon in the first 10 minutes of the game when the Fighting Scots (2-1) rattled off three shots, including one on-goal as Nora Newman (Woburn, Mass.) kept the game scoreless with a save. Gordon finished the first half with 11 shots but the score remained 0-0 heading into the second half.

Elms, however, couldn't keep Gordon off the board in the second half. Rosalind Keeley scored to put the Fighting Scots ahead 1-0 in the 47th minute and Sabrina Jandreau added an insurance goal in the 66th minute for the decisive 2-0 advantage.

Newman finished the game with seven saves as Gordon held a 24-0 advantage in shots, including 9-0 in shots on-goal, and a 20-0 lead in penalty corners.

The Blazers will be at home for four of their next five games, hosting Western Connecticut State (Sept. 5) and WPI (Sept. 8) later this week.
