Colby-Sawyer Edges Field Hockey

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Colby-Sawyer College freshman Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) recorded her first collegiate goal early in the second half, which proved to be the game-winner, as the Chargers field hockey team defeated Elms 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Chargers improve to 1-2 and will conclude their three-game home stand on Saturday against Wheaton. Elms falls to 0-3 and will play at Johnson & Wales on Wednesday under the lights.

After a scoreless first half, the Chargers broke through 2:32 into the second as Schuster deposited the ball into the cage off a feed from fellow freshman Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.).

Schuster set up Colby-Sawyer's second goal 19 minutes later as she found senior teammate Brittany Grandbois (East Barre, Vt.). Grandbois scored her team leading second goal of the season to secure the victory for the Chargers.

Senior Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) was credited with the win after making four saves. Elms keeper Jillian Lapponese (Enfield, Conn.) kept the Blazers close with 14 saves.

Colby-Sawyer finished the game with a 26-5 edge in shots and a 12-1 advantage in penalty corners.
