Field Hockey Falls to Western Connecticut State University, 3-0

DANBURY, Conn. - Elms College sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.) made 14 saves, but Western Connecticut State University used two goals from Shelly Davies (Newtown, Conn.) that helped spark the Colonials to a 3-0 win in Thursday evening's non-conference field hockey game in Danbury, Conn.

With the loss, Elms moves to 0-2 on the season, while Western Connecticut improves to 1-1 overall.

The Colonials got off to a fast start as Davies netted her first goal of the contest on a pass from Morgan O'Dell (Brookfield, Conn.) just 12:30 into the contest to give Western Connecticut a 1-0 lead.

Davies extended the Colonials' lead to 2-0 six minutes into the second half when she drove in a feed from Heidi Odenwaelder (Goshen, Conn.). Eleven minutes later, O'Dell picked up her second assist of the game when she found Kim Gigante (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) who delivered Western Connecticut's final marker to seal the 3-0 win.

Alvino stopped 14 shots, while sophomore forward Kristina Kopyscinski (Agawam, Mass.) and junior forward Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) added a shot on goal each in the losing effort for the Blazers.
