Field Hockey Falls to Becker College 5-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. - Elms College junior goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) posted 10 saves, but Becker College's Victoria Sirchia (Goshen, Conn.) netted two goals to help lift the Hawks to a 5-0 victory in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game at Leary Field.

With the loss Elms falls to 1-12 on the season, 0-3 in NECC play, while Becker improves to 6-10 overall, 2-1 in league action.

The Hawks registered an early goal when Sirchia found the back of the cage at the 10:45 mark. She struck again just two minutes later to give Becker a 2-0 lead 13 minutes into the game.

Becker added two more tallies before the end of the half as Stephanie Dixon (Rockport, Mass.) and Michelle Griczika (Barre, Mass.) each netted a goal. Amy Giguere (Colrain, Mass.) assisted on Griczika's goal as the Hawks took a 4-0 advantage into the intermission.

Becker scored their final goal in the 18th minute of the second half when Dixon capitalized on a pass from Katherine DiMascio (Braintree, Mass.) to set the score at 5-0.

Blazers' freshman net-minder Alysha Parsons (Newington, Conn.) relieved Bonavita with 12 minutes remaining and recorded 4 saves.

Becker owned a 30-6 shot advantage, sparked by an 18-0 showing in the opening 35 minutes.  Hawks' goalie Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, N.J.) was credited with the clean sheet and notched five saves.

The Blazers return to action when they square off against Bay Path in an NECC matchup. First-serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Leary Field.
