Baseball Drops Both Ends Of Twin Bill With Pilgrims

Holyoke, Mass. — The Elms College Baseball Team hosted the New England College Pilgrims in an NECC double header at Mackenzie Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Blazers would drop both games, losing game one 8-1 and game two 3-2.


Game One / New England College 8, Elms 1

The Blazers were able to jump out in front early, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning on a Thomas Slane (Tolland, CT) double,that scored Kris Alvarado (Springfield, MA). Elms' lead would be short-lived, as the Pilgrims were able to come right back and score a run in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly.

The score would remain tied, 1-1, until the top of the fifth when New England College scored their second run of the game. The Pilgrims would then go on and extend their lead, plating three runs in the top of the sixth and seventh, allowing the Pilgrims to take game one, 8-1.

Nick Powers would pick up the win for the Pilgrims. Kevin Banas (Hatfield, MA) would take the loss for the Blazers.

 

Game Two / New England College 4, Elms 2

The Blazers were able to take another early lead, pushing a run across in the bottom of the second inning, when Alvarado drew a walk with the bases loaded. The Blazer lead would be short-lived yet again, when the Pilgrims came right back with two runs in the top of the third. The Blazers wouldn't wait long before tying the game up at two in the bottom of the frame on a Cam Griffin (West Springfield, MA) single, scoring Josh Berthiaum (Pittsfield, MA) . 

The Pilgrims would take their second lead of the game in the top of the fifth then add an insurance run in the top of the seventh, and would take game two, 4-2.

Stanley Vargas would get the win for the Pilgrims, and Manuel Alejandro would pick up a save. Thomas Owens (Enfield, CT) would take the loss for the Blazers.

The Blazers are back in action Sunday when they travel to Mitchell College for a big NECC double-header at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
