Baseball Uses A Four Run Ninth In Walk Off Win

Holyoke, MA – The Elms College Baseball team hosted Springfield College on Tuesday night in non-conference action at Mackenzie Stadium. The Blazers would use a four run bottom of the 9th, and a little Mackenzie magic to secure the come from behind walk off win over the visiting Pride.

Elms got off to a shaky start, committing three errors and giving up four runs in the first two innings. The Blazers were finally able to get on the board in the bottom of the 7th, only to see Springfield come right back with two more runs of their own to go up 7-1.

The Blazers would find life in the bottom of the 8th. Elms would plate three runs, the big hit came off the bat of Thomas Slane (Tolland, CT) when he delivered a 2 RBI double down the left field line. Elms would pick up another big run in the frame on a Cam Griffin (West Springfield, MA) ground out making the score 7-4.

Mason Scott (Ludlow, MA) would come in and pitch a 1,2,3 top of the 9th and set up the dramatic finish.

The Blazers would deliver four extra base hits in the bottom of the 9th, starting with Kyle Pingree (Springfield, MA) roping a line drive in the left field gap. Alex Hoss (Stafford Springs, CT) would then step up and smash a double down the left field line scoring Pingree. Next up Josh Pasini, would follow the two batters before him and lace a double in the right field gap.  Nate Ayala would walk and be replaced with a pinch runner, Matthew Mullin (Worcester, MA). Next up was Slane, he would step into the batters box with runners on 1st and 2nd and the Blazers down 7-6 and would stroke a triple down the right field line scoring Pasini and Mullin for the walk off win.

The Blazers used 17 different position players and four pitchers in the big come from behind win.

Elms is back in action on Thursday night at 7pm when they host Eastern Connecticut State University in a non-conference game.
