Baseball Drops Both Ends Of Doubleheader At SVC

Bennington, VT – The Elms College Baseball team was in action on Monday afternoon in a NECC doubleheader at Southern Vermont College. The Blazers would come up short in both games, losing game one 4-3, and game two 2-1.

Game 1 – SVC 4, Elms 3

Elms would get on the board in the top of the first inning when Thomas Slane (Tolland, CT) singled in Josh Pasini (Enfield, CT) giving the Blazers an early lead. The Blazer lead wouldn't last long, Southern Vermont would take advantage of an Elms miscue in the field and push across a run in the bottom of the frame to tie the game up 1-1.

The Mountaineers would jump out in front in the 3rd 2-1 and pick up two more big insurance runs in the 4th to extend their lead to 4-1.

The Blazers would mount a comeback in the top of the 7th inning. Pasini would single, followed by a Nate Ayala double which put runners at 2nd and 3rd and the tying run at the plate. The Mountaineers 3rd baseman could not handle a hot shot from Slane allowing two runners to score and pulled the Blazers to within one. The Blazers comeback would fall short when the next two batters grounding out to end the game, giving SVC the 4-3 win.

Ryan Richards danced around nine hits to pick up the win for SVC.

Brandon Bennett (Easthampton, MA) pitched six strong innings for the Blazers in the loss.

Game 2 – SVC 2, Elms 1

Game two turned into a pitcher's duel with both teams getting quality starts. The game would only see eight combined hits and three runs.

The Blazers would take a lead for the second straight game when Nate Ayala (Springfield, MA) ripped a single scoring Josh Pasini (Enfield, CT). The lead would be short lived, the Mountaineers would answer in the bottom of the inning pushing a run across to tie things up 1-1.

SVC would go on to take the lead in the bottom on the 5th on a sac fly 2-1, which would be enough to secure the sweep.

Ryan Richardson only allowed three hits and would pick up the win.

Jacob Graveline (Palmer, MA) only allowed five hits in the loss.

Elms will host Springfield College on Tuesday night at 7:30 in non-conference action.
