Blazers Come Up Big In Sweep Over Lions

Holyoke, MA – The Elms College Baseball team hosted the Eastern Nazarene College Lions on Thursday evening in a conference doubleheader. The Blazers would come up big in both games with come from behind wins in the sweep, and push their winning streak to five games.

Game One – Elms 3, Eastern Nazarene 2

The Lions jumped out to one run lead in the top of the 2^nd inning only to see the Blazers come right back in the bottom of the frame and tie things up when Cam Griffin deliverd a single (West Springfield, MA) scoring Cam Hart (Leicester, MA).

ENC would take their second lead of the game in the top of the 4^th going ahead 2-1. The score would stay that way until the bottom of the 6^th when the Blazers would push two huge runs across the plate. With the bases loaded and two outs Josh Nohilly (Bristol, CT) would step up a deliver a line drive single to center field scoring Thomas Slain (Tolland, CT) and Andrew Serio (Northampton, MA) to give Elms a 3-2 lead going into the last inning.

Thomas Owens (Enfield, CT) would come in and slam the door picking up the save for Kevin Banas (Hatfield, MA) who threw six strong innings for the Blazers.

Coach Netkovick would use 16 different players in the win.

Game Two – Elms 7, Eastern Nazarene 6

The second game of the doubleheader started out about as bad it could go for Elms. The Blazers would make three errors and give up five runs in the top of the 1^st. The Blazers would not go down without a fight and came right back with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Elms would score the first run on a bases loaded walk, then Nohilly would step up again and deliver a two run double cutting the Lions lead to 5-3.

The Blazers wouldn't wait around long to tie things up and came right back in the bottom of the 2^nd scoring two more runs on a Pasini sac fly and an Ayala single.

With score now 5-5 the 4^th the Lions would strike again, jumping out front 6-5. The Blazers would yet again come right back and tie things up in the bottom of the frame when Pasini doubled in Griffin from second base.

The two teams would then play four scoreless innings until Ayala stepped up in the bottom of the 9^th and crushed a line drive over the left fielders head delivering the walk off hit for the Blazers.

Owens was huge for the Elms pitching four scoreless innings, and would get credit for the win.

Coach Netkovick would use the bench and the bullpen again with 17 diferent Blazers seeing action.

Elms travels to Southern Vermont College on Saturday for a conference doubleheader at 12pm and 2:30pm.
