Baseball Drops Both Games of Doubleheader With Dean

Franklin, MA – The Elms College Baseball Team opened up conference play on Saturday getting swept by Dean College in a doubleheader.

Game 1: Dean 11, Elms 0

Jason Bottone (West Haven, Conn.) was stellar on the mound, tossing a complete game, two-hitter and the Dean offense erupted for 11 runs in the first game against Elms.

The Blazers had a difficult time figuring out Bottone and could only muster 2 hits in the game. Cam Griffin (West Springfield, MA) and Alex Hoss (Stafford Springs, CT) both delivered singles for Elms.

The Bulldogs got on the board in the third platting 3 runs and would add 4 four in the 4th. That would prove to be enough and Dean would take game 1, 11-0.

Thomas Owens (Enfield, CT) would take the loss for the Blazers.

Game 2: Dean 10, Elms 2

Gaten Davis scattered seven hits and allowed just two runs in a complete game effort to lead Dean to a series sweep of Elms with a 10-2 win in the doubleheader nightcap.

The Blazers would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the third when Alex Hoss (Stafford Springs, CT) sent a ball through the left side that allowed Josh Keaton (Northbridge, MA) to score from second base.

The Bulldogs would come back and put up a 6 spot in the 5th and add 4 more runs in the 6th to take a 10-1 lead. The Blazers were not able to mount a comeback and would eventually take the loss 10-1.

Kevin Banas would be the losing pitcher on record for the Blazers.

Elms is back in action when they travel to regionally ranked Western New England University on Monday, first pitch at 3:30 p.m.
