Blazers Drop Road Game At Rensselaer

Troy, NY – The Elms College baseball team suffered a 7-4 road loss on Wednesday evening in a non – conference game at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The Blazers jumped out to an early lead scoring 2 runs in the top of the first when Thomas Slane (Tolland, CT) singled through the right side scoring Alex Hoss (Stafford Springs, CT) and advancing Austin Roy (Cromwell, CT) to third. Cam Griffin (West Springfield, MA) would then get Roy in on a sacrifice fly to center field giving Elms a 2-0 lead. The score would stay that way behind 4 strong innings of work from pitcher Brandon Bennett (Easthampton, MA). Bennett would run into trouble in the 5th allowing 2 runs and would be pulled from the game with the score tied at 2-2.

The next 3 innings would see back and forth action. Roy would give the Blazers a 3-2 lead when he successfully stole home on a double steal. The Engineers would answer in the bottom of the frame on single from Cole Paquin scoring Michael Arboleda. RPI would take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the 8th 4-3 and put them 3 outs from the win. The Blazers would not go down easily and got a huge pinch hit single from Josh Nohilly (Bristol, CT) that would score Andrew Serio (Northampton, MA) and tie thigs up at 4-4.

After a walk and hit batter to start the bottom of the 9th, Joseph Curci would step up and delivered a 3 run home run to give RPI the walk off win.

Aidan Safar would get the win for RPI, Mickey How (South Windsor, CT) takes the loss for Elms.

The Blazers open up NECC play on Saturday when they host Easter Nazarene College in a doubleheader at 12pm.
