Blazers Fall At Mitchell In Regular Season Finale

NEW LONDON, Conn. – After splitting a pair of 10-innign games in a double-header on Saturday, the Elms College baseball team couldn't keep up with New England Collegiate Conference foe Mitchell College in a 13-3 loss on Sunday to wrap up the regular season.

The Blazers will enter next week's NECC Tournament with a 12-24 overall record and an 8-10 mark in NECC play.

Mitchell (26-8, 14-3 NECC) sprung early, picking up four runs in the first and two more in the second to pull ahead 6-0.

Elms loaded the bases with one out in the fourth and Nathan Ayala (Springfield, Mass.) drove on a run to cut the lead to 6-1, but the Blazers left the bases loaded after a strikeout and fly out.

The Mariners added to their lead with a two-out rally in the fifth, stringing together three hits and adding two runs to make it 8-1.

Josh Pasini (Enfield, Conn.) and Thomas Slane (Tolland, Conn.) added RBI singles in the eighth and ninth, respectively, for the Blazers but Elms couldn't slow down Mitchell, which added one run in the seventh and four in the eighth en route to the 13-3 win.

Pasini went 3-for-4 for produce half of the Blazers' six hits in the game. Mitchell tallied 19 hits in the contest. Eric Marriott (Niagara Falls, Canada) had four hits and three RBIs for the Mariners and Jack Finnegan (Old Saybrook, Conn.) added three hits and three RBIs.

Brandon Bennett (Easthampton, Mass.) got the start for Elms and gave up six earned runs in 1.2 innings. Mason Scott (Ludlow, Mass.) came in and weathered the storm over the next 4.1 innings, allowing two earned runs. Eddie Santiago (New London, Conn.) got the win for Mitchell after throwing six innings of one-run ball while fanning seven batters.
