Run-Support Missing As Blazers Drop Double-Header To Lesley

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The Elms College baseball team fell to 0-3 in New England Collegiate Conference play after a pair of shutout losses against Lesley falling 2-0 and 3-0 at the New England Baseball Complex on Saturday night.

GAME 1 – Lesley 2, Elms 0
Thomas Owens turned in a stellar pitcher performance for the Blazers (3-14, 0-3 NECC), working six innings while allowing just one earned run while racking up seven Ks, but there was no run support to be found as Lesley pitcher Tom Muratore tossed a gem of his own. Muratore went the distance and gave up just three hits in the shutout victory.

The Lynx (13-4, 5-0) didn't need a hit to manufacture the game's first run in the fifth inning. Steven DePalma was hit by a pitch with one out in the inning, and reached third on an error. Will Rhone drove DePalma in from third with a sacrifice fly.

Lesley used two singles and a sac fly to add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, and it was more than enough to pick up the win.

GAME 2 – Lesley 3, Elms 0
Josh Berthiaume went 2-for-2 at the plate with one double, and the Blazers came up with five hits but were unable to get a run across the plate in a 3-0 loss to close the season series against Lesley.

The Lynx pulled ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning after a pair of two-out hits and added a pair of runs in the sixth for the 3-0 win.

Brandon Bennett pitched 5.2 innings and struck out six batters while giving up just three hits and two earned runs. Once again, however, a stellar Elms pitching performance was overshadowed by a Lynx pitcher. Nick Iadevaio pitched a complete game and struck out eight batters while scattering five hits in the shutout performance.

The Blazers return home to face Southern Vermont on April 3, although SVC will bat as the home team as the contest was originally scheduled to be a home game for the Mountaineers. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
