Blazers Drop Two To Alvernia

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Elms College baseball team dropped two games to Alvernia at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on Thursday. The Blazers fell 10-2 in the early game and 7-2 in the afternoon.

Elms drops to 0-5 on the season after the two losses while Alvernia improves to 2-2 on the season. The Blazers continue action on Monday with a single game against the US Merchant Marine Academy at 3:00 p.m.

GAME 1 – Alvernia 10, Elms 2
Alvernia jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back in the early game on Sunday. The Golden Wolves took advantage of three Blazer errors in the first inning to plate four runs. Alvernia added three more in the fifth, two in the sixth and another in the seventh before Elms broke through with two in the bottom of the seventh.

Thomas Slane went 2-for-3 for Elms and Nathan Ayala went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Matt Plasse pitched six innings and struck out three batters. Six of Alvernia's nine runs under his watch were earned. Michael Luciano pitched the final inning and struck out one while giving up one run.

GAME 2 – Alvernia 7, Elms 2
A grand slam from Alvernia's Dillon Dunne was too much for the Blazers to overcome in the second half of the double-header, as Elms fell 7-2.

The Blazers took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning, and held that advantage until Dunne went yard in the fourth. The Golden Wolves added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth before Elms got one back in the seventh.

Ben Ross went 2-for-4 in the leadoff slot for the Blazers in the game, while Slane picked up another RBI while going 1-for-3 at the plate.
