HOLYOKE, MA. April 26, 2008 - Elms College senior left fielder Joe Ferry (Palmer, MA) went 2 for 4 with three runs scored in two games, but Castleton senior second baseman Brad Polcare (Saratoga, NY) went 6 for 9 with four RBI and five runs scored in two games to lead the Spartans to a sweep over Elms College in Saturday afternoon's North Atlantic Conference baseball game held at MacKenzie Stadium.

Castleton posted a 12-3 victory in game one and a 9-6 win in game two.  The sweep moves Castleton to a mark of 17-16, 9-1 NAC, while Elms College drops to 11-17, 5-3 NAC.

In game one the score was knotted at 1-1 entering the second inning before Castleton pounded out nine hits and scored eight runs to take a 9-1 advantage.

Castleton sophomore pitcher Ken Cook (Chester, VT) limited the Blazers to just six hits and three earned runs to post the complete-game victory.

Polcare finished game one 4 for 5 with three RBI and three runs scored to lead the Spartans offensively.

In game one Elms College junior third baseman Mike Andrews (Greenfield, MA) went 1 for 3 with an RBI single in the losing effort.

In the first inning of game two Castleton jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage on RBI singles by junior catcher Kyle Brooks, (Charlottle, VT) and senior center fielder Chris Ragis (South Burlington, VT).

Castleton held a 9-1 lead entering the seventh inning of game two, but the Blazers tallied five hits and scored five runs to cut the Spartan lead to 9-6.  Freshman second baseman Hector Roche (Bronx, NY) scored on a passed ball, freshman pinch hitter Chris Burnham (Wilbraham, MA) ripped a two RBI double down the right field line, and Andrews stroked an RBI single through the right side.

Castleton junior pitcher Rob Turner (Rutland, VT) surrendered just four hits and one earned run in six innings of work to earn the victory.

Elms College returns to conference play Sunday, April 27 when the Blazers host a doubleheader against Thomas.  Game one is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
