BASEBALL EARNS A DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT WITH BATES AT THE DISNEY INVITATIONAL

ORLANDO, FL, March 15, 2008 - Elms College junior pitcher RJ Vassallie (Long Branch, NJ) allowed just two earned runs in four innings and freshman relief pitcher Mike Andrews (Greenfield, MA) threw three innings of relief to help the Blazers earn a split of a non-conference baseball doubleheader with Bates at the Disney Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Elms College (3-7) fell 11-7 in game one, but rebounded with a 7-5 win in the second game.

In that second game, Vassallie yielded three hits and struck out four before turning it over to Andrews, who was the eventual winner for the Blazers.

Freshman shortstop Hector Roche (Bronx, NY) had a two-run hit to help spur the Blazers' three-run sixth inning.

In the first game, senior center fielder Joe Ferry (Palmer, MA) belted a two-run single in the fourth inning and also plated a pair of runs for the Blazers.

Elms College returns to non-conference play on Friday, March 21 at Johnson & Wales University. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
