Five Baseball Players Named All-NAC

CHICOPEE, MA, May 2, 2008 - The North Atlantic Conference (NAC) announced its 2008 Baseball All-Conference teams on Friday, May 2 and Elms College had five players honored.

Junior third baseman Mike Andrews (Greenfield, MA) and junior outfielder Nick Mackowiak (Dudley, MA) both earned First Team All-NAC honors.

Mackowiak batted a team-leading .364 with one home run, five doubles and 17 RBI in 29 games, while Andrews hit .352 with one home run, two triples, six doubles and 29 RBI in 31 games.

Sophomore pitchers RJ Vassallie (Long Branch, NJ) and Mike Bieber (Wading River, NY) were both named Second Team All-NAC after combining for six of the Blazers 12 victories this season.

Vassalie went 2-3 with 25 strikeouts a team-leading 3.00 ERA in 36.0 innings, while Bieber went 4-2 with a 3.68 ERA and team-high 33 strikeouts in 44.0 innings of work.

Senior outfielder Joe Ferry (Palmer, MA) was also named Second Team All-NAC after batting .282 with five triples, two doubles and 16 RBI. Ferry, who finished his four-year career as the program's all-time leader in stolen bases, registered 26 steals in 27 attempts this season.

Elms College's five All-NAC selections were the most in the team's four-year history.
