Baseball Earns Win And Tie Against Hamilton

BASEBALL EARNS WIN AND TIE AGAINST HAMILTON

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL., Mar. 21, 2007 - Elms College junior pitcher Ted Roback (Manchester, CT) notched his second win of the season and the baseball team earned a win and a tie with Hamilton in Wednesday's non-conference doubleheader at the Port Charlotte Invitational.

Elms College (2-5-1) mounted a 5-2 lead over the first three innings of game one before Hamilton (2-3-1) responded and tied the game, scoring two runs in the sixth and one in seventh, to send the game to extra innings tied at 5-5. 

Neither team scored in the 10th frame, but Elms scored four runs to pull away to an eventual 9-7 victory.

Roback pitched the final 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on 7 hits while striking out three. Senior shortstop J.T. Mooney (Burlington, MA) finished the game 3 for 5 with an RBI.

Hamilton freshman pitcher Ben Tomaszewski (Seabrook, NH) went the distance giving up nine runs on 14 hits while striking out six in the losing effort.

In game two, junior third baseman Nate Hawes (New Hope, MN) smacked a three-RBI triple lifting the Blazers to a five-run first inning. The game ended tied 5-5 through eight innings.

Freshman pitcher Dan Ingraham (Granby, MA) gave up five runs on 10 hits and struckout four, while Hamilton senior hurler Kevin Coppola (Clarence, NY) gave up five runs on 6 hits while striking out four, as each earned an eight-inning no-decision.

The Blazers return to Port Charlotte Invitational action Thursday, March 22, when they play Bates College in a double-header.
