WATERVILLE, ME, April 28, 2007 - Elms College freshman pitcher Sean Bergeron (Chicopee, MA) fired a complete-game, three-hit shutout in game one and went a combined 3 for 8 with three RBI to help the Blazers post a sweep over Thomas College with 7-1 and 7-5 victories in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) baseball doubleheader at Waterville, Maine.

The sweep, which was the first in Elms College's three-year history, enabled the Blazers (8-17-1 overall, 5-5 NAC) to remain in sole possession of the fourth and final playoff spot for next weekend's NAC Tournament.

Thomas was eliminated from NAC postseason contention as it fell to 8-18, 2-8 NAC.

In Saturday's first game, Bergeron, the reigning NAC Rookie of the Week, struck out seven and issued just one walk. In his last three appearances, Bergeron has not allowed an earned run in 16.0 straight innings - a streak that includes a pair of complete-game, shutout conference victories.

The Blazers plated two runs in the first inning, two more in the third and three in the fifth to seal the victory.

Freshman infielder Justin Jacobs (Springhill, FL), junior catcher Joe Sawa (Chicopee, MA) and sophomore outfielder Nick Mackowiak (Dudley, MA) each had a pair of hits.

Sawa belted a RBI double in the first and added a RBI single in the third.

In game two, freshman pitcher Mike Bieber (Calverton, NY) allowed four earned runs in 5.1 innings en route to his second collegiate win and junior relief pitcher Jay Wheeler (Chicopee, MA) induced a flyout and double play in the bottom of the seventh to earn the save.

Sophomore infielder Joe Prattico (Holyoke, MA) and freshman third baseman Brian Marrero (Kendall Park, NJ) each added RBI singles to highlight the Blazers' five-run, third inning.

Elms College concludes its conference regular season schedule with a doubleheader at the University of Maine-Farmington on Sunday, April 29. Game one is set for 12:00 p.m.
