Blazers Lead NECC With 31 All-Academic Selections

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College winter and spring student-athletes led New England Collegiate Conference with a total of 31 NECC All-Academic honorees, as the league announced its academic honors on Monday.

A league-high 11 Elms women's lacrosse student-athletes earned the recognition, including Alyssa Barnes (Pittsfield, Mass.), Madison Crawford (Bennington, Vt.), Haley George (Brattleboro, Vt.), Madison Jung (Stafford Springs, Conn.), Lindsey McNiff (Kingston, Mass.), Vanessa Nogueira (Ludlow, Mass.), Haley Richard (Monson, Mass.), Kelly Scianna (Milford, Mass.), Victoria-Lynn Smith (Somers, Conn.), Jacqueline Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) and Vanessa Vurno (Salem, Conn.).

The Blazer baseball team had six representatives on the list, including Kevin Banas (Hatfield, Mass.), Joshua Berthiaume (Pittsfield, Mass.), Cody Fisher (South Windsor, Conn.), Alex Hoss (Stafford Springs, Conn.), Andrew Serio (Northampton, Mass.) and Thomas Slane (Tolland, Conn.).

Six Elms softball players also earned the recognition, including Rachel Connell (Easthampton, Mass.), Kayla Doherty (Plaistow, N.H.), Jeszy McGuire (Brimfield, Mass.), Elizabeth Olszewski (Canterbury, Conn.), Katelyn Sylvia (Southwick, Mass.) and Raeanna Tumel (Stafford, Conn.).

Five members of the Elms men's volleyball team earned a spot on the list, including Audrye Alejandro (Las Piedras, P.R.), Daniel Bondarovsky (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), David Hernandez (Manati, P.R.), Gabriel Reis Levy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Pablo Ortiz (Newington, Conn.). Ortiz, a two-sport athlete, also represents Elms men's basketball with the recognition.

Three Blazer women's basketball student-athletes were honored, including Rachel Granger (Hampden, Mass.), Samantha Lynes (Berlin, Conn.) and Molly Moulton (North Adams, Mass.).

To be eligible for NECC Academic All-Conference honors, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.40 on a scale of 4.00 and must be a sophomore or higher in class standing. Student-athletes who competed in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's lacrosse, softball and men's volleyball were eligible for Winter/Spring NECC academic honors.
